"The groundwork of all happiness is health"

slow start to diet and fitness

SO, I’m starting to wonder if I’ll ever lose the weight that I want to lose. With working all vacation, I’m exhausted and unenthusiastic about exercising, especially since my work hours force me to workout after 8 hour shifts and who wants to do that? I was really looking forward to kick-starting my exercise/healthy eating routine the first week of April so I could lose 20 pounds by June 5 (my high school graduation/ college orientation). Now, I know this goal will be impossible. I’m alittle down in the dumps about it right now but I haven’t given up hope! i don’t work during the week so after school I just have to force myself to get up and go to the gym everyday. Eating healthy during school is somewhat of a challenge for me (the fries are so tempting!) but not impossible if I have self-control. The biggest problem for me is eating healthy after getting out of school. My boyfriend and I do not have a lot of food in the apartment right now so my diet mostly consists of fast food (dollar menu stuff) and ramen noodles. For breakfast I can eat eggs, whole wheat bread and jam, milk etc so getting a healthy breakfast in should be easy enough. I still want to lose at least 10 pounds before graduation which should put me at 178 pounds instead of the 188 that I currently weigh. My ultimate weight lose goal is 140 and I will get there!

starting the diet…..today!

So for the last couple of days since I’ve made this blog I haven’t been sticking to a very steady diet. =[ Wrapping up stuff in school before the marking period ended meant staying up all night and sleeping at weird hours. As exhausted as I was, any food that was in close proximity was good enough for me! Also, my boyfriend Eddie and I have eaten out at restaurants the last couple of days. Its a rare occasion when we have enough money to do that, so it was a nice treat. Yesterday we tried out this little Mexican restaurant in town and it was such a good experience so I don’t regret it.

Now that spring break is here, I have no more excuses for not eating healthy and working out consistently. For breakfast today I had oatmeal, grapes, and strawberries. I love eating this combination because it fills me up all day. I have to work eight hours today so I probably won’t eat again until 9-10 at night (a nice chicken stir-fry maybe?). Working out is going to be a struggle because my gym closes early on the week-ends (so weird!). Starting Monday, my workout routine is starting full force!! This week I have off is goign to kick start my healthy life style, I know it!!!

Favorite Fitness Apps

One thing I have on me at all times = my ipod. One of the first things I did when I purchased it a couple of years back was check out the fitness apps. With the apps only a click away what better way to lose weight? needless to say, I downloaded quite a few. There were definitely some that stuck out and I’ve kept with me so I thought I’d share those with you guys. The best part about these, I got them all free! I don’t know if they are all still free or not, but I don’t see why they wouldn’t be.

1. Calorie Counter & Diet Tracker by MyFitnessPal

This App is amazing and I’ve been using it for over a year now. I’ve got many of my friends addicted to it! This little tool makes it easy to keep track of how many calories you eat each day. There are many other programs and websites that do the exact thing, but I enjoy this App because it is always accessible for me and easy to use. It also has the convenience of having a bar code reading ability which is nice to  have when eating packaged foods because you don’t have to look up the name and brand manually.  The only thing I don’t like about this App is that sometimes it does not have the exact food or exercise that you need. In this case, I usually just improvise. Most of the time, you can list the ingredients to create the meal you ate.

2. Nike Training Club by Nike Inc.

This little exercising tool is amazing, and I’m sad to say that I have not yet used it to it’s full extent. It offers different levels of exercise intensity and at each level of intensity, there are several lists of different exercises one can do. The greatest part of this app is that there are short clips of each exercise showing you how to do it properly. When exercising, proper form is important and I always get frustrated when I can’t do something properly because reading about how to do an exercise doesn’t even compare to seeing someone do it on video. I really have no complaints with this app. Its great for quick exercise and targets many different parts of the body. Its just wonderful, definitely get this one if you already haven’t!

3. The Next App that I want to tell you guys about has several different parts but they are all similar so I’ll list them together.

These Apps include: Daily Ab Workout, Daily Butt Workout, and Daily Arm workout by Daniel Miller

These little Apps are so convenient that I use them basically everyday! Now just so your aware, there are free versions and paid versions of this app. Being the broke High school senior that I am; however, I only downloaded the free versions of each. I don’t even see why you’d pay for it though, especially when the free version is so fantastic! They are basically comprised of little workouts at can either be 5, 10?, or 15 minutes along depending on how much time you have. You can choose to only do some of the workouts they list (this might be a paid app thing…) or just do all of them (which I always do). They have a person showing you how to do each exercise (You can tell this is an important feature for me lol), which helps you get the exercises down pat. Now, I know that there are other daily workout apps by the same company…Daily Cardio Workout, etc. But I only use these three. I do these each morning and night and cardio I usually do at the gym so I don’t think I’d ever use the app. If you want to use the other ones, by all means do because these are some handy dandy applications for weight loss!

Well these are my three most trusted apps that I use to help me keep track of my weight loss and exercise. Now if only I could find a good food/nutrition app that helped me put healthy meals together I’d be all set! If anyone has any good recommendations, by all means tell me so I can try them! =]

P.S These were all my own views/options on these products. I do not have any affiliation with the companies listed. I have used many weight loss apps and these are the few that I’ve kept with me and constantly go back to. Happy weight loss everyone!

Why I want to lose weight

Hello! thank you for viewing my blog. I’ve never used Tumblr before so just give me some time, and hopefully I’ll figure some more things out :). I’ve decided to make a blog to journal my weight loss journey. I’m not really sure that anyone will read it, but it would be nice to have some support along the way. I am an 18 year old female finishing up her last couple of months of high school. My goal is to lose 40 pounds by the time I have to leave for University next fall. I don’t know my exact measurements or weight at the moment, but I’ll be adding them to the blog shortly. I plan on detailing my strategies, goals, achievements, and everyday concerns on this blog. Hopefully I’ll be able to inspire other people that are in a similar position.

I’m not wealthy at all (ramen noodle every night kind of diet) so buying healthy food is a somewhat difficult task for me. I don’t have any fancy exercise equipment and workout machines so this journey will be somewhat challenging, but nonetheless necessary for me to achieve. My entire life has been consumed by concerns with my weight. I am 5’7” and cant remember a time I weighed less than 175 pounds. I wasn’t able to accomplish a lot because of how self-conscious I’ve always been. I can recall school events and sports that I never played because I was too afraid of what people would think of me.

I finally fed up with feeling sorry for myself. I created this monster and I’m going to destroy it. The last thing I want to deal with in college along with an entirely different lifestyle is constantly being self-conscious about my weight. Habits are hard to undo but I swear that I will accomplish this. There is no excuses now, I just have to do it.
